Imagine the following scenario.

It is mid-afternoon on the Wednesday just before Thanksgiving. Some jerk walks into the Atlanta airport, gets his boarding pass and makes his way to the mini-North Korea known as TSA. He hands the blueshirt his boarding pass and driver’s license. He then reaches into his carry-on bag, presses a button and – KABOOOOOOM!!!!!! – kills 2000 people.

tsa-linesAt the same moment, two other jerks are doing the exact same thing at O’Hare and DFW as part of a co-ordinated attack. And not only have more people just died than died on 9/11, but America’s three largest aviation hubs have just experienced massive destruction and air travel everywhere has been severely interrupted.

TSA could not prevent this, just like they could not prevent the fatal shooting of a TSA agent at LAX last year. Terrorism need not happen at 35,000 feet. Indeed, extremely few terror attacks have anything to do with aviation.

TSA does not keep you safe. Period.

However, the American people persist in the notion that it does. And they will tolerate endless violations of their civil liberties and physical bodies in the name of Schutz und Sicherheit.

patriot actIt all started shortly after 9/11 with the passing of the Patriot Act, which ushered in numerous violations on our Fourth Amendment protections against unlawful search and seizure. And most people supported it because, after all, we had to “go after the terrorists.” And, hey, we had to give up our liberty for a time until the crisis passed.

I have to confess that I acquiesced in this for a very short time. Like so many millions of others, I was caught up in the passions of the moment.

But then I started asking: now that the camel’s nose is under the tent, what else are they going to do? And, more importantly, how much more will the American people accept?

Apparently, there is no limit here.

Will we routinely accept the violation of our physical bodies in the name of safety and security? It turns out that we have.

Just consider the passivity with which most people accept “porn, perversion and pedophilia” – I wish I knew who said that first – in the name of “transportation safety”. When you look at a nude photograph of a minor, it is child pornography. If someone else feels you up without your consent, it is sexual assault. (And if anyone did this to me under any other circumstances, it would take about one nanosecond for me to put the wretched little pervert’s teeth on the ground.)

The Nazis didn’t do it. No communist regime ever did it. Yet, in the “land of the free”, being felt up in order to prove one’s innocence is now a condition of travel.

And just look at these tax-mainlining Uncle Ernies.
tsa kids 6 picsAnd if you will let the authorities photograph you naked and feel you up, why wouldn’t you let them violate you even further?

Would you let them catheterize you, like these central Utah police did when looking for marijuana?

Would you let them draw your blood? Read what is happening in Tennessee, Texas and Oregon.

Would you submit to cavity searches, such as those performed in Milwaukee and in Deming, New Mexico?

Would you let them slit your throat and kill you? Police did just this on a drug bust in Huntsville, Alabama. And just as TSA has never caught a terrorist, the cops in this case found no drugs.

“But …… but …… but, they were looking for terrorists and drugs.”

drugs terrorThe wars on drugs and terror are just like any other type of federal overreach. Both come clothed in somebody’s good intention. Both are sold to us in the name of some Higher Good. They always grow bigger and uglier with time. And they always create bigger problems than those they were intended to solve.

Do you want to live in a society when the authorities can invade your body at will and with impunity? Do you want to live in a society where you are constantly required to prove your innocence? A government that will force you to prove your innocence is infinitely more dangerous than any drug or terrorist.

Even more dangerous is a populace that feels protected by such a government. Obama is too good for such a people.

About Food for the Thinkers

My name is Doug Newman. I live in Aurora, Colorado, just outside Denver. Food for the Thinkers is mostly about the connection between Christianity and libertarianism. Most Christians do not understand libertarianism. And most libertarians do not understand Christianity. Hopefully, this blog helps clear up those misunderstanding. Check out my old page at www.thefot.us And remember: When you let people do whatever they want, you get Woodstock. But when you let governments do whatever they want, you get Auschwitz.

Excellent article my friend. I asked one of the gestapo, or gestapoettes (a woman) how many terrorists, within one, the TSA had ever caught. She said she didn’t know but I could “ax” her supervisor. She motioned to him, he came over and I asked him the same question. And he said, “That’s all we do every day.” And I told him, “You have never caught even one, that is why I phrased the question the way I did.” I don’t think they liked me much but that was ok. I don’t particularly enjoy having my rights violated just because I want to go somewhere on a plane.

The TSA guards the airports…. yet the REAL threat to us could easily be MANY small four-seater aircrafts and private rural airports. With the small planes filled with C4, and jihadists willing to die…. they could fly the planes into major oil refineries. Think. What would be the result to the USA’s energy needs if 80% of the refineries were destroyed?? Transportation? Trucking? Business? Dow Jones? Agriculture, food production and distribution? Commodities such as plastics? The list is infinite…. Why hasn’t anyone thought of THAT??

  4. Anon says:

If you don’t want to live in such a society, move elsewhere. Nothing is going to change here as long as the voting Morons repeatedly re-elect the same Idiots to office.

    • marmaru says:

Your assumption that the vote is actual and accurate is naïve. Sorry, but as Stalin once said, “it is not who votes but who counts the votes”. Voting machines and no paper trail?

      • * * If you don’t want to live in such a society, move elsewhere. * *

And yet another regurgitation of the favorite, old political canard! – I get so fed up with folks telling me this when I try to educate them on what is really wrong with this country. It is so sad that so many people keep with this habit of maintaining credibility and defense of the indefensible.

Sorry but, I was one of those who signed up as a young man, at least thinking I was doing something to help keep my country free! – When I returned to “civilian life”, post-service, I was very, very disappointed at what my home country became! I also was not happy about being constantly detained, harassed, and otherwise threatened by the local “law-enforcement” here at home, for over EIGHTEEN MONTHS! – NOT what I call signature hallmarks of a “free society”.

No! I will not leave my country in its time of need! I will stay and educate, fight, and even die for the very idea of a free society in these united states again. To want anything less completely misses what this country was to stand for, originally.

And YES, the system of “voting” and (s)elections is an absolute sham!

    • windberry says:

Or maybe (if I may) if, they continue to consistently NOT go to the polls and exercise their right to vote

  5. Good post.

The very basis of genuine Libertarianism can traced even further back in history to many of the pre-Christian societies. The “Christianized” Roman Empire surely did not afford the same protections and considerations towards the various cultures they conquered (like the Celts, as an example)! The very idea of freedom and individual liberty is as old as humanity itself. It was many of the centralized communities, started by imperial churches” that helped to start mankind down the path towards less freedom. ANY “doctrine” that has been proposed and “force-fed” to a populace has been about anything BUT freedom and liberty for the individual.
    Take for instance,

Our original, Constitutionally-sanctioned form of jurisprudence:

It came from the old Norse way of life. It encompassed and practiced the idea of “innocent until PROVEN guilty”. It was the basis of being tried by your PEERS, not some nebulous concept of a (supposedly) “fair-and-impartial” jury. All punishments were to fit as closely as possible to the severity of the crime committed.

The old “Christian” laws did NOT operate in anything the same!

Being guilty of all sins for merely committing ONE is not what I call a fair trial.

Being able to be stoned to death for something of a crime (or an “offense”) that is nothing close to such violence is as good as excessive in my book.

Being able to stone to death a woman who sells her body for a living is as equally repugnant to a truly free and just society.

So I see very little validity in the idea of Christian values being the basis of Libertarianism, unless you are equating Libertarianism as having severe limits (dictated by someone else’s doctrines) placed upon those “Unalienable” and “Divinely-authored” rights and liberties! This makes very little sense.

There have even been completely secular societies which have had more liberties and freedoms than we have actually experienced.

The operative word is “responsibility”. It is through the teaching of responsibility, by the parents, other family members/elders, etc. that a truly free society knows about its various freedoms and liberties, and knows WHY these freedoms and liberties are to be safe-guarded at all costs. – You do NOT need another man’s religion for that.

Good post and very poignant examples to boot!

The TSA ARE terrorists. They terrorize people with threat of violence. The police have become the terrorists when they invade homes and shoot former marines and then deny that innocent marine medical care. The politicians are the terrorists who say, “Obey or you will suffer: you’ll be thrown in a cage by men with guns who will shoot you, but we don’t have to follow the same rules you do.” There is a terrorist around every corner, but they’re probably not an Islamist. They are a SWAT team member, a TSA agent, an IRS agent, an NSA employee….the war is against us.
