The Left, the Right, and Hypocrisy Over the Corona Panic (Updated, December 2, 2020)

By Doug Newman – email me here.
Here I am on Facebook.
If you would like to post this elsewhere – who knows why? – please just link to this URL. Thanks!

I tried drawing a Venn diagram the other day in order to illustrate this point. Eventually, I decided to write a quick blog article instead. The hypocrisy of statists abounds in the age of the Corona Panic.

resist store.moveon.orgHave you noticed yuuge overlap between leftists who either have “Resist” bumper stickers on their vehicles or who empathize with the movement, and those who are now cracking whips on the rest of us to close our businesses, stay at home, socially distance, wear a mask, take a vaccine and, well, whatever the powers that be want to order us all to do next week?

thin blue lineAnd have you likewise noticed the yuuge overlap between those who, not very long ago, insisted on unconditional support for law enforcement, and those who are now outraged – properly, mind you – every time the punitive priesthood* arrests people for reopening businesses, going to church, protesting, sitting on a beach, playing basketball, attending a house party or committing any number of absolutely victimless acts that are now verboten because of the Corona Panic?

UPDATE: I wrote this in early May before the left started screaming “Defund the Police”. Well, how do these people – not all of them but lots of them – plan to enforce lockdowns, mask mandates, etc. without, well, law enforcement? Or mandate enforcement, or whatever?

As is almost always the case, only libertarians – regardless of party affiliation – have any sort of philosophical consistency.

About Food for the Thinkers

My name is Doug Newman. I live in Aurora, Colorado, just outside Denver. Food for the Thinkers is mostly about the connection between Christianity and libertarianism. Most Christians do not understand libertarianism. And most libertarians do not understand Christianity. Hopefully, this blog helps clear up those misunderstanding. Check out my old page at www.thefot.us And remember: When you let people do whatever they want, you get Woodstock. But when you let governments do whatever they want, you get Auschwitz.

    Doug,

The last two Sundays we’ve gone to Messiah Baptist Church 3201 West 44th Avenue. I enjoy the minister who’s ready to go to jail if that’s what the state prefers. I prefer the OPC, and still listen to sermons on FB, but I like personal worship. I also love the Gospel music of the Baptist’s traditions. If you haven’t checked it out, here’s my BLOG http://www.touchstoneconnect.com I think you are already aware of it?
