America’s Great Task: Rejecting Donald Trump

I deplore hyperbole and sensationalism in politics. I am quick to remind people to keep our politics in a broader, historical perspective. I respect people from both parties, and while some Presidencies have been better than others, I have believed that, whether America is under Democratic or Republican leadership, our country will broadly be fine.

Thursday night, watching Donald Trump accept the nomination for President, I was the most genuinely frightened I have ever been in my life.

A year ago, I predicted that Trump could be the Republican nominee. I didn’t realize how frightening of a prediction I made.

I have routinely dismissed outlandish comparisons of Trump to fascism. After Thursday night, no longer.

I regularly mock the notion that “this election is the most important one in a generation.” This time, I’m not so dismissive.

Let’s talk about that convention.

From night one, I realized this was…

Cops Gone Wild, Hillary Gone Wild

By Doug Newman – please email me.
Here I am on Facebook.
If you would like to post this elsewhere – who knows why? – please just click on this URL as I update my articles somewhat frequently. Thanks!

I work in the insurance industry and consider it a highly noble profession. I work with a lot of wonderful people and I compete against a lot of wonderful people.

I also know that there are a lot of crooks and shysters in my industry who are only looking to make a fast buck and simply do not care about the welfare of their clients.

I don’t believe that simply being in insurance makes me superior to the rest of society. Any accolades – and commissions – that come my way have to be EARNED. I am not simply entitled to them because I am in such a groovy profession.

Where do people get the idea that just because someone rocks a blue uni, collects a government paycheck and consumes several times as many donuts than the average American that they are automatically superior to the rest of us? When cops are properly arresting violent criminals, yes, let’s applaud them. But when they violate the rights of non-violent people, they themselves become criminals and need to be punished accordingly.

Yes, let’s mourn the five Dallas cops that were killed Thursday night and pray for all those injured as well as all those affected by this horrific crime. But let us not ignore the police brutality that is so rampant all over America. What brutality, you ask? Start by clicking here and here and here and here. And then go to Google and YouTube and search for “police brutality”. You will never get to it all.

Over 600 Americans have been killed by police this year. If you automatically assume that these 600 people “must have done something to deserve it” or if you give the cops a free pass again and again because you “support” them, or if you rationalize crime-by-cops away with clichés like “they have a dangerous job” or “they don’t know who they are dealing with”, you are only contributing to the evils you insist you deplore.

How so? There are millions of other people who like other government officials – i.e. Obama, Hillary, etc. – and will make endless excuses for their criminality thereby placing them above the law. Is the word “enable” anywhere in your vocabulary?

It is so tribal. As a caveman might put it, “Cop, him good.”

If gun confiscation ever comes to America – and I don’t think it will as it will cause too many people to wake up – who do you think will be in your neighborhood and on your doorstep doing the actual enforcing?

Let me help you with the answer: cops! Will you still idolize them then?

Sorry, but There’s No “War on Cops” (Updated for 2020)

According to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial Fund, there were fewer cops killed in 2018 than in 1916 … and two-thirds as many as in 1975.

And police work is not even among the 10 most dangerous professions. And according to this article, only half of these on-the-job deaths were homicides.

Melinda Brown Duncan … a Perfect Running Mate for Trump

This Detroit woman would make a PERFECT running mate for Donald Trump.

  1. She speaks her mind.
  2. She is not politically correct.
  3. She supports broad-scale police activity.
  4. She is not beholden to special interests.
  5. Put her in charge and she will make Detroit great again.

Why not just Detroit? How about ALL of America?

I give you, the VPOTUS in a Trump Administration, MELINDA BROWN DUNCAN, BABY!

Enforcing the Law … to Fine, Jail or Kill

“Law professors and lawyers instinctively shy away from considering the problem of law’s violence.  Every law is violent.  We try not to think about this, but we should.  On the first day of law school, I tell my Contracts students never to argue for invoking the power of law except in a cause for which they are willing to kill.”

Thus wrote Yale law professor Stephen Carter.

Is TSA Responsible for More Deaths than Terrorists?

By Doug Newman – FacebookEmail me.
Posted at A Call to Paul and Reddit.

It takes someone smarter than I am to come up with these numbers. It has been estimated that because of the ritual humiliation endured by air travelers and the hands, if you will, of TSA, sizable numbers of people are traveling by car rather than by air. This may well result in 500 additional and totally needless auto fatalities per year, or 7500 in the 15 years since the 9/11 attacks.

TSA presumes you guilty and makes sexual molestation a condition of travel. Indeed, neither the Nazis nor any communist regime ever made a practice of feeling up their subjects. However, we do it here in Uh-merik-uh. And pro-molestation candidates win almost every election by about 97-3. Does anyone have Lee Greenwood’s number?

A government that will molest its subjects in the name of “security” will do absolutely anything to them. And a people that will accept such molestation in the name of “security” will let their government to absolutely anything to them.

And as the recent attacks in Orlando, San Bernardino, Brussels, Paris and now Istanbul show us, you don’t need to smuggle a bomb onto a plane in order to kill a lot of people. Indeed, the Brussels attacks happened at the ticket counter.

A terrorist could set off a bomb right in the middle of the TSA lines at some major airport – the bigger airport the better so as to throw a wrench into the entire travel industry – and kill over 3000 people. Fat lot of protection TSA offers.

Let me know if you feel any safer, more secure or protected now.
