At this rate it shouldn’t take very many more bombs until we finally get our FreeDUMB!

“The Myth of Conservative Patriotism”

Right-wingers absolutely seethe with contempt for the government, except when they are on their knees worshiping the government.

Great article by Christian Newman … no relation that I know of.

Yes, Trump is Part of the Establishment

From the article:

You’ll hear hundreds of theories and rationalizations on Trump’s miraculous victory, but a reason you will almost never hear is also the most likely one: Trump won the election because he serves the interests of the establishment. Trump won because he is a fake.

Trump’s Tariff Proposals are Bad Economics

So many people think that because Trump is a businessman he understands economics. Ted Turner, Michael Bloomberg, George Soros and all the Wall Street and Detroit execs who took all the bailout money are also successful businessmen. Do you want any of them as dogcatcher, let alone president?

Great Facebook post from Thomas Eddlem.

Would Jesus Drop An Atomic Bomb?

“It’s hard to imagine Jesus as a bomber pilot.” – Joe Sobran

superiorsk8's avatarThe Original Banksy

The old cliche is true; history really does repeat itself. And so, the wars roll on. With each generation humanity travels much of the same old road. The mistakes and atrocities of each generation seem to disappear in the annals of time with subsequent generations failing to learn or choosing to ignore, for whatever reason, the mistakes of their fathers. This Saturday, August 9, is the anniversary for the lesser discussed, and often forgotten, bombing on the city of Nagasaki, Japan. Nagasaki was the second city in two equally barbaric and aggressive atomic bombings on defenseless civilian populations that took the war torn Japanese people to the brink of extinction and further crippled their fascist government.

The original target was the city of Kokura, not Nagasaki. Kokura, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki had been mostly spared from the US bombing raids that burned nearly sixty other Japanese cities to the ground. The…

James White vs. ‘Militarized Christianity’

The answer to Islam, and to all other non-Christian faiths, can be found in the last 3 verses of Matthew. Tragically, however, far too many Christians put more faith in the US military and its cheerleaders in the media than they do in the words and deeds of Jesus Christ. The biggest warmongers in America are those who *say* they follow the Prince of Peace.

This is not about pacifism, but rather about militarism run amok.

Patriotic Correctness is Just as Bad as Political Correctness

“Conservatives use ‘patriotic correctness’ to regulate speech, behavior and acceptable opinions.” This is from a wonderful article by Cato’s Alex Nowrasteh.

I would add two things to this article:

  • In addition to cops and border patrol agents, the patriotically correct deify military personnel and consider it treason to so much ask a question about the U.S. military.
  • The patriotically correct believe the War on Drugs is some sort of divine undertaking.

Republicans Now Dominate Everywhere, so Can We FINALLY Get Smaller Government?

Starting in late January, the Republicans will overwhelmingly control government everywhere in the United States.

  • The White House.
  • Both houses of Congress.
  • 5 of the 9 supreme Court seats.
  • 33 governorships.
  • 69 of 99 state legislative bodies – Nebraska has only 1 chamber.

Look at these three maps. The numbers don’t add up to 50 as North Carolina’s gubernatorial race is still being decided.

Can we FINALLY … perhaps … maybe … possibly … theoretically … hypothetically … actually GET smaller, more economical, less intrusive government? We’ve only been waiting since 1981!

Democrats are at least honest about their passion for big government. Republicans talk like Patrick Henry, but elect people who govern like Bernie Sanders.

The Electoral College Still Makes Sense Because We’re Not A Democracy

“Pure democracy” is just another phrase for “mob rule.” Dictatorship of the majority means 51 percent of the citizenry rule the other 49 percent. That minority has no rights except those the condescending majority grants. It works well for those in the 51 percent, not so much for those in the 49. Plato knew it, and James Madison, who knew his Plato, did too. Plato and Madison both recognized that justice and liberty for the minority is possible only when power is shared between groups in society.
