If true, the Obama/Holder DOJ’s gathering of two months worth of AP phone records is a flagrant violation of the Fourth Amendment.
However, this is not why I write.
Those who will scream the loudest about this are those on the right who paved the way for it with their endless trust in his predecessor, Duh-bya.
For eight years, I tried to tell these people that their president was a reckless spender, a socialist and a tyrant who had nothing but contempt for our liberty. And I did so until I was blue in the face.
These people looked the other way while Duh-bya, along with a Republican House and Senate majority, outspent Klinton by $1 trillion per year and added $5 trillion to the debt. And now they complain about Obama’s fiscal recklessness … even though every dollar he has spent since January 2011 has been spent with the blessing of a Republican House..
They were in total denial when Duh-bya and the Dumbos passed the Medicare prescription drug benefit. This was a massive lurch in the direction of the Obamacare plan they hate so much.
Comes now the revelation of the AP wiretapping scandal, and guess who has their whitey-tighties in a wad: the Obama-hating Right.
In the fall of 2001, immediately after 9/11, it was these same people who gladly accepted the Patriot Act. They told us that we had to disregard the Fourth Amendment in order to “go after the terrorists.” And they implicitly trusted that Duh-bya would not abuse these powers.
Again, I warned them that these powers would one day be inherited by another president. Very likely this new president would be someone they hated and who would only augment these abuses of power.
The moral of the story is one of my maxims: It is always easy to say that the government should “do something” as long as they do it to somebody else.

Truer words could hardly be written, Doug. I am an outcast with my family, most of my friends, and many of those I come into contact with every day for my political views. Sadly, the sheep have been conditioned for decades and accept everything their government, hollywood, and the MSM tells them. Even the “evangelical conservatives” are entirely clueless. They think they have the discernment to filter the media bias, yet they spend no time researching the truth. You cannot ingest garbage for years on end without being affected. Coca cola wouldn’t waste billions of dollars on 30 second spots if they weren’t effective at influencing purchasing decisions. If you think you’re immune to brainwashing and propaganda that you have been voluntarily subjecting yourself to for years, you are a complete idiot. GW was a disaster for this country. Obama is only a little bit worse. He is building on the foundation that GW built which the neo-con RINOs funded and approved of.

I think you are correct, the knee jerk reaction to 9/11 allowed the Bush administration to seize many of our rights as citizens because we were afraid. The Patriot Act was probably the most unAmerican legislation ever passed outside of the Jim Crow Laws of the the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. At least the Obama administration has had the descency to step on their collective wanger and now something may be done to start repairing the huge mess we allowed ourselves to be embroiled in. America has done a lot of “stupid” things because of therir fear and I hate to use this without referencing who said it but someone other than me pointed out that “If we are willing to sacrifice freedom for safety then we deserve neither” or words to that effect. Again a very good article but saying I told you so really doesn’t help to fix the problem. Do you have any ideas you are willing to post on what to do to fix the mess?
