Buried amidst the usual election year pablum from Sheriff Ed Brown of Onslow County, North Carolina, was this absolutely horrifying declaration:
“Those in the law enforcement profession have complete power and authority over you, your life, you family, your loved ones, your rights, your freedom, your future, and everything precious to life.”

Oh, I wish I could have responded to this as succinctly as Robert Lenn of Jacksonville, North Carolina, did in this letter to the editor.
“I read Sheriff Ed Brown’s full-page ad in the paper Feb. 2 edition of The Daily News. All freedom-loving Americans should be scared of what it says.
“In the ad, Brown states, “Those in the law enforcement profession have complete power and authority over you, your life, your family, your loved ones, your rights, your freedom, your future and everything precious to life.”
“Ed Brown must want us to live in a total-domination police state.
“It is our Constitution and Bill of Rights that guarantee our freedoms. Any politician who believes in Ed Brown’s statement is not worthy of any public office.
“I totally reject Ed Brown’s claim that law enforcement has complete power and authority over me. As an American, I trust in the guarantees of our Constitution and believe in our democratic way of life; and I will fight against those who would want to impose their tyranny over us.”

Are you surprised? You didn’t already know this sad fact? Sheriff Ed Brown speaks the truth! It is an illegitimate authority they hold over the people, but it is absolute authority, nonetheless. Don’t look to the Bill of Rights for protection from this tyranny either. The Bill of Rights is only ink on paper and it has been proven to hold no protective powers whatsoever.
Unfortunately, the Bill of Rights guarantees nothing, especially today when Americans refuse to abide by the “rule of law”, or at least learn from history.
There is only one recognized authority to “execute the laws of the Union”, and we refuse to do our duty in that measure of guarantee; Article 1, Section 8, Clause 15. It is indeed the only guarantee “necessary to the security of a free state”.
We’ve become so cowed, and so politically correct that we dare not even use the tools that we lawfully constructed to maintain freedom, and liberty.
What brown does not realize is there is about 15 patriots for every hired gun he has. I would laso point out that when the hired guns are out serving brown. There is no one guarding the fort or their residents. Think about that hired thugs! Your family is valuable to ,… We the people will not stand and watch hired thugs take our country without a fight. That is why they are labelling us domestic terrorist.
They must not remember the law that was passed that gives us the right to shoot and kill them if they unlawfully enter my home. Let em try i promise you you will leave out feet first.
Everyone is raising hell over what the jerk owner of the Clippers said.. People should be having a recall. In fact the the states attorney general should be conducting and investigation..

The only thing I can is I hope people see that we need a new sheriff. Ed Brown was a good man when he started as sheriff. I think he has just let the job go to his head. I’m sorry to see a man lose his perspective.
FYI:
The county this sheriff is in a military town. One of the largest Marine bases in the country.
The next Fort Hood location? Great point, this is all pre-scripted to bring in his martial (law) plan…

It’s in America and I won’t put up with it and neither should you. I better not ever hear our Sheriff spew this crap.
We send the troops all over the world to “fight for our freedom” while we nonchalantly give away our freedom here at home.
That Sheriff is in total violation of his oath and is a traitor to the Consitution, America and all those that foght and died for Freedom and Liberty past to present. He is a tyrant and should be kicked out and never allowed to be in law enforcement ever again.
That also goes to anyone in law enforcement that thinks the same way and be warned, you can push the American people only so far. Then We will push back and it won’t be pretty.

That sheriff is a traitor and in violation of his oath.
The Constitution is the Law of the Land, and the Bill of Rights are only some of our rights, we have alot more than what are listed in the Bill of Rights.
And in some parts of the country those documents are still respected.
I should know, I live by the Constitution and exercise my rights as listed in the Bill of Rights as much and as often as possible.
When my rights have been challenged by law enforcement, I have stood my ground,
educated the officer/s to the fact I am exercising my rights, and that I will not back down.
I have made them back down, and I have never been unreasonably harassed or arrested.
And when they back down, leave me alone, and go on their way.
The feeling of freedom I have at that moment is such a rush, it is wonderful.
To stand free, as our Founding Fathers intended, and be left alone. WOW!

One thing that stands out in the reply above that concerns me equally is their content with our democracy. We are not supposed to be a democracy but a republic! Huge fundamental difference between the two and too many people are ignorant to these facts.
We are neither a republic nor a democracy in entirety, rather a mixture of both. The “we’re a republic” people and the “we’re a democracy” people are usually off base on this.
Organizationally as a nation we are a republic, represented by officials elected democratically.
Maybe that is what you meant and if so please do not take my response harshly.

That man is seriously deranged, bordering on psychopathy and delusions of grandeur. These are developments are part and parcel to his Paranoid Schizophrenia. When any man who carries a gun on their hip and has the legal ability to use it on whomever he wants, says things like that above, he needs to be put in a straight jacket and locked up in a rubber room.
Also, that is the least of what should be done to him, and if you North Carolinian’s don’t recognize the danger in a man like that, you’ll deserve exactly what you get.

The United States is in fact a Constitutional Republic. Those that claim it is a democracy or a mix of both a democracy and republic are incorrect. As far as law enforcement claims to having absolute power over citizens. Maybe everyone should stop paying taxes (their salaries). If an entire state did that then police would be forced to work for free. I do not know anyone that would be willing to do that. Especially over egotistical law enforcement officers. Once they remember who they work for and who pays them. I think they will change their tune. Also I recommend people of that county refrain from voting for such an asshole for sheriff. When he has no office or podium to crow from. Can’t get another position in law enforcement. The he will have nobody to blame but himself. Some people just cannot handle a badge. I live in NC and not in that county . I just moved back after being away 37 years. I have traveled and lived in other countries. Yes, the Police State of Amerika is an ugly place these days. I have experienced it personally as well. Google “Rick Stanley Activist” for the whole story. I have to say that I don’t comply very well. That is why they decided to wrongfully imprison me. Been out for 2 and 1/2 years, after 4 years and 2 months in their gulags, without any reason to talk with government these days. I CERTAINLY will never file any pleadings ever again in their courts. Been there done that road, and I won’t do it again. First Amendment rights GONE. Second Amendment rights GONE. The rest as well. They still contact me. I do not respond. That usually means more swat teams on my doorstep in the coming future. I will not comply.

Sheriff is an elected office, the people of that county can easily get rid of this treasonous excuse for an American! He is in violation of his oath of office to uphold the Constitution! that makes him a traitor! As someone else here said, the dumbass better think again! There are 80,000,000 gun owners in the country, and if only 20% of them resist the illegal ‘authority’ this guy thinks he has, that’s 16 million armed Americans he will be facing off against, and that isn’t including the military who would be loyal to the Constitution!

This man must be a total nut job. I am a retired Det. Sergeant from a large Police Department and I also spent 22 years on the Dept. SWAT team. If anyone on the team or the Dept had that type of idea about our so called power they would no longer be in Law Enforcement. This idiot should be fired he sure don’t know what he is messing with when you talk about the Marine Bases there in N.C. Did I mention that I was also a former Marine.
Yes the sheriff is correct. I wish he were not correct, but alas he is correct! If you are being harassed in the internet or bullied by someone, nothing will be done about it. No one cares. But if you are somehow connected to the police or affiliated with the gov’t then all he’ll breaks out and every cop and prosecutor is rallying to lock up the person doing the harassing. But regular citizens are left to fend for themselves. Try calling or emailing an internet company and tell them that you are being harassed on one of their websites by some cyber stalker. Do you know what they will tell you? That’s right! The internet companies have been well groomed by the government to simply tell you that they will not help you unless you are a member of law enforcement! Or go get a judges order! Hmmmmmm. So if I am a cop then these internet companies will help me? Why will these internet companies not help a regular citizen but they will help a member of law enforcement? Ask yourself, Why? Because the government money imbedded in the pockets of the people in these these companies.
It’s too bad that people are taking this out of context and spreading it around the internet, causing hate and anger against this man, and most likely bringing threats to him and his family. It is blatantly obvious by simply reading his ad that he was stating that the power that law enforcement has over us is a bad thing and that allowing it to be controlled by those who do not value our Constitution is dangerous.

Agreed, the context of his statement is completely changed when you don’t cherry pick the quote, and instead read his entire statement:

Shoddy “journalism” to cherry pick a single sentence, out of context. You must be lining up for a job at MSNBC or CNN.
That was taken way out of context. I live here so let me help a little. Ed Brown is the Sheriff in Onslow county and he said that in a promotional flyer. The whole context is that police officers CAN have all that authority over you if they are assholes. That is why he is saying that his Department does not have any of that going on because all HIS officers are moral and well behaved. That was the context of the flyer.

Just in case you folks are not aware, he can say anything he wants, fact of the matter is our nation is governed by laws and law enforcement has their limited rights. That’s why we have so many laws like search warrants required, constitutional laws regarding freedoms, rights regarding whatever. If it violates the constitution, the government is in violation of our laws. Fact is most law enforcement officers share conservative points of view. The other thing to remember is, there is a lot of misinformation out there. Some things are stretched beyond the truth. That just happened at the Bundy Ranch show down. Don’t believe everything you hear. Most police officers side with us. I was one in a big city myself.
